The Gruts come in Blades (4 of them, typical infantry) and Arrows (3 of them). Neither unit is really remarkable on its own – they’re pretty similar to the vikings or the romans. The cool feature both units have is “Bonding”. Blade Gruts have “Orc Champion Bonding” and anytime you move the blade gruts, you can move an orc champion first for free. In the basic set, that’s Grimnak, but if you have Heroes of Bleakwood, you can count Tornak too. The Arrow Gruts have “Beast Bonding” which so far means “Mimring Bonding”, but that’s not all bad.br /br /Both pieces lead to some fun tactics with being able to keep the orcs and their leaders together (for the blades) and possibly unexpected dragon attacks for the gruts. This is a great expansion.

This booster doesn’t have as good a rating overall as the others, but this isn’t because the figures contained are bad. They just require more finesse and thought to use.br /The snakes are incredibly dominating the more of them you use, since the moer you have, the more chances for extra turns you get. They can’t really survive attacks well, but they can do a lot more damage than their worth in points before expiring if you play them right.br /The robot snipers are only a minor threat without any buffs, but get them an attack dice bonus and suddenly their damage goes through the roof. Stick them on high terrain, have Taelord hover nearby, or have Finn give them a hug, and they’ll blow away anything in their sights.br /Even more than the other boosters, this one benefits from having heroes from the Bleakwood booster. Taelord’s a perfect fit for the robots, and the Venoc Warlord makes the snakes scarily fast.br /Overall a very solid booster, if one a little less intuitive in using than most.

I have been playing heroScape since the beginning – I own and use almost every single set and expansion, and recently picked up this new DD expansion set.br /br /Honestly, I was not looking forward to this expansion – one of the things I like most about the original game is the simplicity of the play. After a couple of games with this new set, I can definitely say this is a great addition to the core gameplay.br /br /Aside from a couple of new rules and terrain effects, the major addition is a campaign mode. The included campaign is set up as four “rooms” that connect to make a dungeon. Each room has a condition that must be met before the players can go on to the next, and it is possible to gain and lose characters from the party. The included play scenario is a lot of fun, and I think it will inspire players to come up with campaigns of their own. br /br /An additional campaign can be downloaded at Playdnd.com, and there is an another exclusive campaign available at Heroscapers.com. br /br /The detail and paint of the figures are great – they seem like WOTC took existing DD Miniatures and scaled them to the heroScape system. New terrain includes Shadow Tiles (which give a +1 to defense) Rocks (repainted glaciers) and dungeon tiles. The creatures (such as the feral Troll) are a LOT more difficult to kill, and the new Heroes seem perfectly balanced. br /br /One of the best new rules in my opinion, is the trap roll for glyphs, and the ability to carry/drop glyphs. Made for some interesting fights.br /br /This set doesn’t really change the core game play, it just adds a new twist – campaign instead of typical deathmatch or capture the flag. All of the official master rule scenarios have always had victory conditions, but I think this is going to get people more focused on creative ones. br /br /As a long time player, I was skeptical of WOTC taking this franchise over, but I think they have done a great job with this. My only reservation is that I am concerned they will ultimately try to make this a “collectable” game with blind purchase figures. Let’s hope not – The exclusives were bad enough (although they have rectified this somewhat with the recent expansion – now re-release the flag bearers in a reasonably priced set!!!)br /br /I Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys HeroScape and wants to try something new.

My mom got me this about a week ago anyways heres what the figures do: SU-BAK-NA-He can fly and has an enchantment for something very strong! By the way I think the guy riding the dragon is su-bak-na correct me if I’m wrong. Charos it’s pronounced car-os. By the way some people don’t understand counter strike first you roll defese dice then the dice that didn’t come up shields is unblockable hits to the opponent. but the person attacking must be addjacent. If ccharos dies before the counter strike you can’t use it I don’t think he also has flying. Deathwalker [I forget the #] has a rapid fire thingy which lets him keep attacking….. blah blah blah… Im to tired to tell the rest anyway a great addition to your heroscape collection! I totally reccomend it!

I’ve never played Heroscape before, but this Marvel addition looked like something fun that was a collectible must-have. And I do NOT regret buying it! All of the qualities are a great build-up to the game overall: br /-The 10 figures are small enough to fit on a space on the battle board, yet so detailed. The detail is so specific and all of the features match those of the real (although fictional, I’m pretty sure we have an idea of what heroes and villains look like) characters. I couldn’t imagine them being any more realistic and all of the characters have an equal amount of detail put into them. I was surprised, because I knew they were so small but I didn’t know it was possible for them to have so many additional lines and bumps carved into them. I almost want to put them on display, but I keep them in the box anyway, so they can stay in good condition/won’t get lost until I want to play again. It’s like buying everything in the set and getting ten extremely cool action figures free with the purchase.br /-The terrain pieces are built so that they can connect to any other terrain pieces, grass, cement, or rock. The pieces are very sturdy and I haven’t had any problems with them snapping or breaking or getting scratched/scuffed somehow. They even work good if you connect and build your battlefield on a soft surface. br /-This set works as a great extension to any Heroscape set! br /-It’s really fun to play, it keeps you entertained for a long time, and sometimes, you can’t use basic attacks so you have to get reduced to strategy. The battle lasts a while, though, so start the game when you have time. br /-The breakable wall is also a cool new addition. Just hide behind the wall to surprise your opponent by breaking it or go on top of the wall to stay away from people who can’t get onto the wall by jumping/gliding/flying. br /Overall, this game’s awesome! I would recommend it to anyone who likes board games or wants to have fun-you don’t have to be a Marvel fan! Or just use it as an extension to your other Heroscape sets. Either that, or just buy it for fun-it’s a good deal!
